President's Message - June 2026

The Texas Association of Otolaryngology (TAO) continues to strengthen its mission of advancing the science and art of otolaryngology across Texas through robust advocacy initiatives, high-quality educational programming, successful annual meetings, and enhanced member engagement opportunities. Over the past six months, the organization has expanded its statewide presence while continuing to support physicians, trainees, and allied professionals through education, leadership, and advocacy.

Advocacy Efforts

Advocacy remains a cornerstone of TAO's mission. During the recent legislative cycle, TAO actively engaged with lawmakers and healthcare stakeholders to protect physician-led care and ensure patient safety standards remained central to healthcare policy discussions in Texas. The organization opposed efforts to expand unsupervised non-physician authority while supporting reforms aimed at improving specialty care access and prior authorization processes.

A major highlight was the continued success of "TAO Day at the Texas Capitol," where physician leaders met directly with legislators and committee members to discuss issues affecting otolaryngology practices and patient care statewide. These face-to-face advocacy efforts strengthened TAO's visibility and reinforced the importance of organized medicine in shaping healthcare policy.

In addition, regional legislative advocacy and collaborations with local otolaryngology societies and with the Texas Medical Association (TMA) expanded physician participation and encouraged broader grassroots involvement across Texas.

Online Educational Webinars and CME Programs

TAO has continued to prioritize accessible continuing medical education through online webinars and virtual learning opportunities. Educational initiatives have included the high-yield clinical topics series, panel discussions, and specialty-focused webinars designed to keep members informed about the latest advances in otolaryngology and head and neck surgery.

The association has also expanded efforts to build a stronger online educational library for members, providing flexible learning opportunities and access to expert-led presentations. These programs will help physicians remain current on evolving clinical standards while strengthening statewide collaboration among practitioners.

Annual Meeting and Conference Activities

Planning for the upcoming TAO Annual Conference continues to move forward successfully, with the 2026 meeting scheduled in Houston on November 7th. The annual conference remains one of the organization's signature events, bringing together otolaryngologists from across Texas for continuing medical education, networking, and professional collaboration. The theme for the Annual meeting this year will be AI in Otolaryngology and the Program committee have lined up some great leaders in the field (Don't Miss Out!).

The conference program will feature updates in otolaryngology and head and neck surgery, resident educational activities, exhibitor engagement, and networking events designed to foster collaboration among physicians, trainees, and industry partners. TAO continues to emphasize affordable, high-quality CME opportunities while maintaining strong attendance and exhibitor support.

Member Engagement and Organizational Growth

Member engagement efforts have focused on strengthening communication, increasing participation among local ENT societies, and enhancing networking opportunities statewide. TAO has continued collaborating with regional organizations, including city-based otolaryngology societies, to promote broader involvement and professional connection among members.

The organization also continues to support residents, young physicians, and allied professionals through accessible membership pathways, educational resources, and leadership opportunities. Expanded digital communication, social media outreach, and member-focused programming have further strengthened engagement and visibility across the state.

Looking Ahead

As TAO looks toward the coming months, the organization remains committed to advocating for physicians and patients, delivering high-quality educational programming, and fostering meaningful engagement among otolaryngologists throughout Texas. Through continued collaboration, leadership, and innovation. TAO is well-positioned to further strengthen the specialty and support its members in an evolving healthcare environment.
